2025 was the inaugural year for the State of Our Youth Report and Event. Sharing the latest data trends on chronic absenteeism, reading and math proficiency, community-based programs, and more, the report highlights actionable recommendations for resource allocation, partnership opportunities, and targeted investments in high-need Chicago communities.
Drawing on data powered by ABC’s Youth Opportunity Dashboard, the report makes recommendations that holistically support youth development through cross-sector collaboration, investments, and interventions—moving the needle and supporting youth success. From demographic information establishing high-need communities to identifying a baseline of Chicago's youth, key insights highlight the challenges and barriers young Chicagoans are facing.
The event convened leaders in education, community-based organizations, foundations, and more for a panel discussion moderated by WBEZ’s Sasha-Ann Simons, as well as performances by Young Chicago Authors. The materials included the event brand, handouts, signage, presentation slides, and, of course, the State of Our Youth Report.
